What's New?

Recent Events:
I've neglected the site for the month of September and since I use this as a kind of journal, I will go ahead and update for both September and October. Early in September we had James in the Emergency Room for dehydration. It was kind of a scary thing to see but once again, he was quite a trooper (this is his second visit to the hospital for the same thing). This time it kind of snuck up on us. We had no idea he was that bad off until he was so weak in the morning that he couldn't even open his door. When we picked him up he was limp, just like a little rag doll. I was pretty worried. But they took great care of him at Davis Hospital and by late that afternoon James was happily devouring Burger King Chicken and Fries. Thanks to my in-laws who watched Emily so I could stay with James and so Nate could work.
On Labor Day we had a BBQ with the Kirkham family. And later that same week, on Friday we went back there to have our "Friends and Family" bonfire in which we all invite our in-laws out to mingle. We had a fairly nice turnout though not everyone's family were able to come.
I started voice lessons on the 16th of September and for a while was pretty discouraged and not feeling like I was actually making any progress. It was very frustrating. I knew I needed work but I didn't know it would be so hard! It's a good thing though. A month and a half later I am definitely hearing and feeling a difference and am starting to enjoy the process, hard work and all. I'm already feeling more comfortable and more confident! Thank you Jessica!
In October, we enjoyed General Conference weekend, as usual. It is so nice to have it here and so sad when it's over. I just love, love, love Conference weekends! I'm sure April will be here before we know it though.
On the tenth of October we went to Gardner Village. Nearly all of my siblings and their spouses were able to come out and spend the evening. It was sooo crowded. It made it a little more difficult to enjoy but its still fun to go and see the witches and get in the Halloween spirit.
On the 17th we had another bonfire with the Kirkham family. This time it was to celebrate my grandpa's birthday! Much of our extended family attended. The weather was beautiful and the kids did great so we were able to stay and visit into the evening a little while.
On the 23rd, we attended the Syracuse City Pumpkin Walk. This is a tradition for our family going on three years now and we certainly enjoy it. The kids especially love all those pumpkins! Nearly all of my siblings and their spouses were able to attend. Everyone came over to the house afterward for Hot Chocolate, Apple Cider and Donuts.
On Halloween we went to our neighborhood Trunk or Treat and then visited with my Kirkham grandparents and my parents and then a quick stop to Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Valerie's house to finish up the night. Nate's parents were out of town so we didn't get to see them this year. We have links to pics of the kids and the night's events here.
I love Fall and Halloween but it really seemed to pass by me this year. Though I still don't have it as bad as many women, this pregnancy has been very difficult so far, compounded by the continued problems from my joints which have yet to be diagnosed (or treated). Much of my favorite Fall and Halloween traditions slipped by the wayside this year because of the first trimester blahs, Nate's terrible work schedule, and the typical winter sicknesses. So I'm a little sad that it's over...I feel like I missed it this year. Oh well. That's life, isn't it? I'm now into my second trimester and am hoping the little pick-up in energy will help get me feeling a little more human again. And we foresee some changes with Nate's business that we expect will free him up for more family time. I suppose I'll have to make a greater effort with Thanksgiving so that it doesn't pass me by as well!
Upcoming Events:
Daylight Savings Time ended today. I'm sure whoever decided this day should follow the Halloween holiday doesn't have children. My kids were bouncing off the walls today ALL DAY. Church was a nightmare. It always takes a long time for the kids to adjust and it's always a little strange to be eating dinner when its dark outside but time goes by so quickly it will be time to set the clocks forward again in the blink of an eye.
This coming weekend my sister Melissa will be getting married to Kyle Smith. Kyle has four kids of his own to add to Melissa's three. It will be quite a change for them. His kids are adorable and we love and welcome them and sincerely wish their new family success and happiness.
Thanksgiving falls on the 26th this year. We are scheduled to eat with my side of the family this year, though most years our Farr and Johnson family dinners happen a few hours apart from each other so we will likely be stuffing our faces twice that day. It's a great, fun day and one of my favorites! I can't wait to be peeling pomegranates in front of the TV while I watch the Macy's Day Parade! And having a time to be grateful is a blessing in itself.
The following day I perform the first Christmas concert with the Davis Master Chorale. It will be at the Kaysville Tabernacle that evening at 7:30pm and will be about a half hour long. There will be entertainment all that evening and the next as well, from various community groups. They have displays set up in the cultural hall of nativity scenes as well. And the best part....it's free! It's a wonderful event to help get you in the mood for Christmas. If you're in the area, stop on by! (I can't believe we're already talking about Christmas!)
Happy Birthday this month to my brothers-in-law Brett Duersch and Kent Farr and my sister-in-law Melissa Farr!
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Hope it's the start of a wonderful holiday season for you and your family.
